About Us

Welcome to Saindoux Skincare! My name is Kate Manley, a native of Baldwin County, Alabama. I would like to tell you a little about why Saindoux exists today.

When I was about 12 years old, I began having skin issues which initially were large hives all over my body - even my face! As years went on, I also developed eczema which would appear on the inside of my elbows, back of my knees, hands, and yes, again, face. I can’t count the mornings that, as an adult, I woke up with swollen eyes - to the point of not being able to see. Oh, and the days I still had to go into work in healthcare looking like the opposite of the picture of health. Eventually, I learned to significantly lower the amount of toxins I was putting in my body with synthetic fragrances, foods, cookware, medications, and skincare products. Then, I learned the importance of detoxing. So I did a few detoxes, some with research and some without doing research. By the way, don’t ever chug a glass of celery juice! That’s all I will say, but all you need to know is don’t. do. it!

So anyways, I have mostly healed my skin, although not completely. However, the effects of years and years of eczema on my face and hands left me with a type of skin that looks like it should belong on some type of reptile.

That’s where Saindoux came into being. I began learning about tallow (fat from cows) and it’s benefits. This made me begin to wonder about other animal fats. What about lard (fat from pigs)? I learned that lard is the same pH as our skin. It is also a great source of vitamin D, which helps protect our skin from sun damage. Have you ever thought about how many times, it’s the simple things that work so well? Well, here’s a great example!

So, with Saindoux, we have combined these healthy fats (tallow and lard) with other ingredients like shea butter and plant oils such as: castor, jojoba, coconut, and sweet almond.

For the creams and balms containing any of the oils, we don’t add water. When adding water to oils, you then need an emulsifier in order for the product to keep from spoiling. We don’t want to add unwanted or unneeded ingredients, so we just leave the water out! That is why our products are more healthy, but, yes, also have a shorter shelf life.

Think about it like you would your food. Remember, your skin is your largest organ. Whatever is put on your skin is absorbed and taken into your body. What do you always hear about shopping at the grocery store? For better health, shop around the outside of the store, where the fruits, veggies, meats, dairy and fresh baked goods are kept. Why is this? It’s because those items have no or less preservatives in them. More healthy food comes at a cost, and the cost is that it spoils faster. We guarantee our products to have a 6 month shelf life, but people who use these products have reported that they have been able to use their animal-based products for up to a year. Your products will last longer without many fluctuations in temperature and if it stays dry (by not putting a wet hand in the lotion, for example).

Whew, that was a lot! I hope you know that my family will only sell products that we have tried for ourselves and have approved of. Our products are made in small batches and are never tested on animals… just willing friends and family! Our goal is to provide you and your family with quality products that are healthy and nourishing for your skin.

Our lard is sourced from a local farm in Atmore, Alabama from pigs raised on pasture who were fed an organic soy-free and corn-free diet. Our tallow is from 100% grass fed cows. With both of these animal fats in one jar, you are able to get the benefits that both have to offer!

Where did the name Saindoux “Sandoe” come from? When I was thinking of a name for the company, my first thought was to just name it “LARD.” Then I thought, “What is a fancy word for lard?” Well, what could sound more fancy to a Southern American than the French language? What is the French work for lard? And that’s where Saindoux, LLC was born!
